Addie’s Bio

Addie Elder is a 22-year-old non-binary woman based in Marietta, Georgia. Currently pursuing a BFA in Photography and Video at Kennesaw State University, Addie has been refining her craft since 2016, working with both digital and film media. She is passionate about building a career in freelance photography, entrepreneurship, and personal photography, with a focus on creating striking and liminal visual narratives.

Addie currently works as a newborn photographer with Mom365 at Northside Hospital Atlanta and Emory Hospital Midtown, capturing intimate moments in a clinical setting. In her personal work, she often collaborates with friends as models, crafting images that explore the realms of sensuality, surrealism, and human connection.

In addition to photography, Addie is skilled in ceramics, mixed media, and sculpture, bringing a tactile dimension to her artistic practice.

Artist Statement

My photography aims to explore the human form and experience from perspectives often overlooked. Using live models, including myself, I center my work around the body—focusing on themes of intimacy and liminality. My goal is to encourage viewers to reflect on their own bodies, shifting from a societal gaze to a personal, more introspective viewpoint.

While my practice frequently involves digital media with a DSLR camera, I am equally drawn to the unpredictability and depth of film photography. To create an intimate atmosphere, I often rely on hard, direct flash and avoid exterior lighting sources. Though I occasionally work with strobes or hot lights, on-camera flash complements my vision, enhancing the raw and immediate quality I strive for.

Influences like Nan Goldin have shaped my artistic journey since I first became interested in photography. More recently, artists like Christian Zajicek, known as @visionsofalife on Instagram, have inspired my approach to capturing candid, honest moments.

My work addresses both personal and societal issues, examining how our perception of our bodies is influenced by external expectations and upbringing. As an artist, my mission is to reach those who feel discomfort in their own skin, guiding them toward seeing their bodies as art—vessels of potential for self-expression, physical exploration, and personal empowerment.
